TAIPEI, Oct 19, 2009 -- An even more spectacular light show and fireworks display will be staged this year at Taipei 101 during the New Year's Eve party, the vice chairman of the Taipei Financial Center Corp. (TFCC) that owns the tower said Tuesday.
Wei Ying-jiao made the comment after it was reported that the Tourism Bureau, the major sponsor of the Taipei 101 light show in the past two years, will not be able to sponsor the show this year because it has put a lot of its financial resources into boosting tourism business in areas hit by Typhoon Morakot.
Wei told reporters at an award ceremony for Taiwan's top 10 international brands that his group is very pleased with its investment in Taipei 101 and that "the New Year countdown party will absolutely not disappoint anyone." Noting that the fireworks countdown is an important celebration that gives international exposure to Taiwan, Wei said that the TFCC will not only organize the event this year but also plans to make it bigger.
Asked about whether the name of his family's food and beverage business, Ting Hsin, will be displayed at the show, Wei said that his family prefers to keep a low-profile, therefore the show will not highlight any characters related to the company.
