Woodbridge announces Independence Day fireworks for July 2

Mayor John E. McCormac announced that the annual Woodbridge Township Independence Day celebration and fireworks display will get underway on Fri., July 2 at 4:00 p.m. when gates open at the Alvin P. Williams Memorial Park on the Sewaren waterfront. The 2010 Independence Day celebration is sponsored by the Township of Woodbridge and Albert Jasani, Executive Director of the "We Share, We Care Foundation."

“I am extremely excited to announce that Woodbridge Township is again hosting one of the largest Independence Day fireworks display and entertainment events in the state,” Mayor McCormac said. “Woodbridge Township is home to dozens of military personnel currently serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan and home to military veterans who served and protected America's freedom and democracy in conflicts around the world it is to those brave military personnel and veterans that we dedicate this year's Independence Day celebration.”

According to Mayor McCormac, live music with The Party Dolls will begin the evening's events at 6:00 p.m., followed by "Bringing the Night to Life" fireworks display choreographed to music. The National Anthem will be performed live by Woodbridge's own Valentina Seramba, the winner of the 2010 Woodbridge Idol contest.

The Woodbridge Township fireworks display and entertainment event draws thousands of residents to the Sewaren waterfront and is an extraordinary celebration of place and country. Again this year, the renowned Pyrotecnico Fireworks will bring to the Sewaren waterfront a world-class pyrotechnics display with more than 12 thousand shots fired electronically by computers in synchronization to a wide selection of patriotic and contemporary music.

Alvin P. Williams Park will be closed during the day to allow for the fireworks set-up. The gates will open to the public at 4:00 p.m. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are encouraged. There is no reserved seating and no alcoholic beverages are permitted in the park. In case of inclement weather call the Woodbridge Township Department of Recreation at 732-602-6045.

In announcing the July 2 professional fireworks display at the Sewaren waterfront, Mayor McCormac reminded residents and visitors that all types of fireworks are illegal in Woodbridge Township. Under the state Fireworks Regulation Law, it is a crime to sell, use and/or possess any kind of fireworks, including firecrackers, roman candles, M80's, cherry bombs, salutes, and even sparklers in New Jersey. The Woodbridge Police Department will respond to any complaints or instances where the use of illegal fireworks jeopardizes public safety.
