The Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival will no longer light up the sky this year because of the earthquake.
Organizers announced on March 23 that out of the respect for the earthquake’s victims, they have canceled the fireworks show originally set for Saturday, August 13. Since 1997 it has been canceled by storm, this is the second time to halt the fireworks show.
The Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival is held on the second Saturday of August each year, where the two foremost fireworks companies of Japan, namely Hosoya and Marutamava compete in displaying the most spectacular firework displays for the onlookers. It has become one of the largest and best known fireworks displays in Tokyo.
